Over 5 years ago, the full body of bishops in the United States called for a "National Convocation" that would "convene, challenge, and motivate Catholic leaders to embrace the full vision of what it means to be Catholic and fully engaged in the Church's mission of evangelization and to proclaim the Church's vision of the human person." The Convocation was in response to the Holy Father’s Apostolic Exhortation, “Evangelii Gaudium, The Joy of the Gospel,” which calls us as Catholics “to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy [of the Gospel]”—to become ever more, and to form others as, missionary disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This Convocation was held July 1 - 4, 2017 in Orlando, Florida. Approximately 3,500 delegates attended the Convocation including Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Religious, and laity. There were 8 delegates representing the Diocese of Salina. The delegates will be meeting in the coming months to discuss how to best respond to the Holy Father’s call for evangelization and discipleship within our local communities, diocese, and beyond.
