History of Immaculate Conception Parish, Grinnell, Kansas
The Immaculate Conception Church was a station served by the Capuchin Fathers of Hays, as early as 1896. The first church was built in 1906 at the cost of $3,700. A new church was built in 1948 at the cost of $110,000. The dimension lumber and sheeting of the old prairie church was used in building the new structure. The refurbished Statue of Mary that now stands in the vestibule lobby of the church, stood for years above the tabernacle on the altar in the first church building. The Educational Center was built in 1965. Immaculate Conception Parish celebrated their 100 Year Centennial in 1996 with Bishop George K. Fitzsimons, eight fellow priests, two nuns and some 468 past and present parishioners.
